This is my 13th year attending the Aftershock Festival and I was very much looking forward to talking with the women of The Violent Hour, especially Carla Harvey. I interviewed her back in 2017 at Aftershock Festival when she was with Butcher Babies. This year she debuts her new all-female band and new single, “Already Dead,” which releases this week.

Harvey always dreamed of forming an all-female metal rock band. Following her departure from Butcher Babies in 2024, she had the decision to either walk away from music or dive in and make her dream come true. Harvey teamed up with the legendary Charlie Benante (Anthrax/Pantera) writing music the blends metal, alternative and old school rock n roll. Then, she recruited her dream team with Kiana De Leon on lead guitar, her sister Sasha De Leon on drums, Allie Kay on rhythm guitar and Jewell Steele on bass. All of them describe what it felt like to receive the call from Harvey inviting them to join the band.

Fun fact: before she got into music Harvey pursued a career in mortuary science, receiving a degree from California’s Cypress College, was Valedictorian and earned a degree in Mortuary Business from Mid America College of Funeral Service. She is a licensed embalmer and funeral director. She loves writing as well, publishing her first full-length novel, Death and Other Dances back in 2014, along with a comic series titled, Soul Sucka the following year.

The band share what it feels like performing together, creating together and tease about a debut album. The Violent Hour performed on The Point stage at Aftershock Festival on October 1, 2026; the west coast’s largest rock, punk and metal festival.
