Laufey Releases Highly Anticipated Third Album A Matter of Time

Last week, GRAMMY®-winning Icelandic-Chinese artist, composer, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Laufey released her highly anticipated third album, A Matter of Time, through Vingolf Recordings/ AWAL.

For Laufey, every new album is a blank canvas for stories to write. Her debut, Everything I Know About Love, captured the journey of leaving home and embracing personal growth through a hopelessly romantic lens. With her sophomore album, Bewitched, she shifted the focus to young love. Both projects, blending orchestral textures with bossa nova and jazz influences, established Laufey as a unique voice in today’s music landscape.

In her debut album, Everything I Know About Love, she explores a hopelessly romantic album about personal growth and leaving home. In her second album, Bewitched, she focused on young love. Through mixing instrumental orchestrations with strains of bossa nova and jazz intertwined, these two albums set Laufey apart.

Now, in her third album, A Matter of Time, she felt freer than ever, letting her heart take her where it needed to and exploring heavier themes. “I’m constantly thinking about classical and jazz, how to preserve them and pay homage properly,” says Laufey. For A Matter of Time, she reunited with longtime collaborator Spencer Stewart and also worked with Aaron Dessner (The National, Taylor Swift).

Laufey has described her songwriting as literal. In “Snow White,” a single from the new album, Laufey explains, “Snow White is about the never-ending chase for perfection that comes with being a woman. It’s about looking in the mirror and seeing all the ways in which you can improve yourself.”

Born and raised in Reykjavik, Iceland, Laufey is bridging the gap between classical and jazz music to Gen-Z. At a young age, Laufey learned piano and cello, later studying at Berklee College of Music.

Earlier this year, Laufey launched The Laufey Foundation, dedicated to supporting young musicians, particularly through youth orchestras. One dollar from every tour ticket sold will go toward the foundation’s mission.
