Lzzy Hale, lead singer of GRAMMY Award-winning band Halestorm, is among the notable list of women risk-takers and icons of the metal genre, featured in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s newest exhibit,” Women in Metal: You Will Know My Name.” The exhibit, opened on July 10, celebrated with Lzzy and Halestorm guitarist Joe Hottinger, who performed a short acoustic set on the outdoor PNC Stage, followed by a slate of metal bands: Storms Within, MAXILLA, and Reign of Z.

Curated by Rock Hall’s Assistant Curator Haley Cronin, the exhibit spotlights women who defy the typical labels of womanhood, celebrating those who’ve made meaningful, pioneering efforts in the metal genre and challenged the status quo along the way.

The collection features artifacts spanning the breadth of women who have taken the metal world by storm, including Lita Ford, Lzzy Hale, Alissa White-Gluz, Taylor Momsen, Courtney LaPlante, and more.

Women in music non-profit Women Who Rock partnered with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a promotional partner for the exhibit and attended the opening event with their activation “Write Her Into Rock History,” inviting every attendee to celebrate the woman in music who inspired them most. Their merch is now available in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Gift Shop.

Reflecting on the honor, Hale shared: “I’m so proud to be a part of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s ‘Women in Metal’ Exhibit. I’m honored to stand next to my sisters of scream. These women have set me on fire and helped shape this genre. Together we are just creating space to shine, be loud, and carve a path for the next generation to follow, as our foremothers inspired us.”

Cronin echoed that sentiment: “Women have been pivotal influencers and changemakers in the metal genre since its inception. We are excited to tell the stories of those women who stand firmly and courageously at the forefront of innovation and acceptance, and through their raw power pave the way for all girls who just want to rock.”
