Do you have a box of tissues handy? You might need it.

Olivia Rodrigo is back with her highly anticipated third studio album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. Taking a new step into Olivia’s storytelling, this album is complex and designed to feel through the complexities of a relationship.

When the album was first announced, British Vogue noted that these songs were to be “specifically about the obsession and anxiety of love,” or “the depression when your lover is gone.” Simply put, sad love songs. Olivia draws influence in the pop-punk space and dives into her inspiration of the 90s rock, riot grrrl, and The Cure, among others. She doesn’t stop at homage, either: Robert Smith of The Cure appears on the track “what’s wrong with me.”

Listen to the album.

you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love is split into two sections: Side A: girl in love, which explores those obsessive moments and anxieties of love, and Side B: you seem pretty sad, the coping with the loss when your lover is gone.

Olivia is hitting the road this fall with The Unraveled Tour, which includes several ten-day residencies at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY, the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, and London’s O2 with 11 nights. She joins an elite group of musicians and artists who have reached double-digit residencies at the venue, including Prince, The Spice Girls, One Direction, Ariana Grande, Elton John, and Rihanna.
