Fifth grade vocal music teacher Emily Roemmich at Jefferson Elementary introduced her students to a nontraditional school instrument – the mandolin. Using a Fender grant to purchase the mandolins, Roemmich said she wanted to provide her students with the opportunity to learn an instrument that might stir up interest in playing a more traditional instrument when they head off to middle school next year.
